Siempre Virgen Santa Mara de Guadalupe" Ever-Virgin Holy Mary of Guadalupe

This Advent (from the Latin "Nativitas" or birth, referring to the com- ing of Jesus), on December 12, 2016, the Diocese of Lexington celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the first time at the diocesan level in the Cathedral of Christ King. Our Lady is celebrated in our diocese every year in several parishes, especially those with more Spanish speakers. This year, thanks to the interest of Bishop John Stowe, O.F.M. Conv., the Secretariat for Pastoral Life, the Office of His- panic Ministry, the Hispanic communities of the parishes of St. Paul and Mary Queen, the Knights of Columbus, the Office of Liturgy, and the Cathedral of Christ the King, we had the joy of celebrating our Virgin of Guadalupe even more. The Mass in Spanish at the cathedral was very well attended, there was no empty space, and we felt the presence of our Virgin. Before the Mass, there was a Guadalupana dance. During the Mass, we sang "las maanitas" to our Lady of Guadalupe, which is a beautiful song sung at birthdays. Bishop Stowe gave us a very motivating and heavenly homily. After Mass, there was a representation of our Lady of Guadalupe's apparitions, followed by a re- ception with chocolate and tamales in Heh- man Hall. It was a night of celebration and joy in which Bishop John gathered us once again as Catholics and speaking to our hearts by reminding us that the Virgin loves us and always cares for us. The Virgin of Guadalupe is of Mexican origin, however, she has been adopted by many Catholics around the world and was named Patroness of the Americas by the now Saint Pope John Paul II. Even though the Virgin has millions of devotees and faithful, there are still many Catholics in the United States who do not know the history of our holy "morenita" (little brunette), either because they have devotion Este 12 de diciembre del 2016 durante el Adviento - del latn "Nativitas" o nacimiento, refirindonos a la venida de Jess- aqu en nuestra dicesis de Lexington, KY celebramos por primera vez a la Virgen de Guadalupe a nivel diocesano en la Catedral de Cristo Rey.
